To renew your Kuwait Civil ID online, go to the PACI e-services portal at paci.gov.kw, select Card Renewal, enter your Civil ID number, confirm your details, upload a photo if prompted, and pay the renewal fee using KNET or a bank card. The renewal window opens 60 days before the expiry date. Cards are ready within 1 to 5 working days after payment.

What to Do Now

  1. Check your expiry date — renewal opens 60 days before expiry
  2. Go to paci.gov.kw → E-Services → Card Renewal
  3. Pay online via KNET, save your receipt, then track via SMS

Who Can Renew Civil ID Online

Not every renewal qualifies for the online process — understanding this before starting saves a wasted visit.

Every Kuwaiti resident whose Civil ID is approaching expiry must renew it before the expiry date. The card is required for banking, healthcare, residency renewal, telecom registration, and all government services.

Online renewal through the PACI portal is available for standard renewals with no data changes. Cases involving a name correction, date of birth update, biometric issues, or photo discrepancies cannot be completed online — these require a visit to a PACI counter in person.

The Public Authority for Civil Information (PACI) manages all Civil ID renewals in Kuwait and is the only authority authorised to issue or renew cards.

What You Need Before Starting

Having the right items ready before opening the PACI portal avoids session timeouts and failed submissions.

  • Civil ID number — 12-digit number on the front of the card
  • Kuwait mobile number — required for OTP verification during payment
  • KNET or bank card — accepted for online payment; save the receipt as a PDF
  • Passport and residency page — have these available if the system requests verification
  • Compliant photo — required only if PACI prompts for a new one during the renewal session

A photo uploaded during renewal must be frontal, no glasses, neutral background, correct dimensions, no shadows or filters. Photo rejections are among the most common reasons renewals fail at the submission stage — check the PACI portal for current photo specifications before uploading.

Kuwait Civil ID Renewal Fees

All fees are payable online through the PACI portal using KNET or a debit or credit card.

Confirm current fees directly with PACI before visiting, as fee amounts may be updated without prior public notice.

Common payment errors and fixes

  • Transaction failed — wait 10 to 15 minutes and retry; confirm KNET is activated on your card and a sufficient balance exists
  • OTP not received — ensure your Kuwait SIM has signal; disable VPN before requesting the OTP again
  • Duplicate charge concern — check your card statement before retrying; most failed attempts auto-void within 24 hours

How to Renew Civil ID on the PACI Portal

Follow these steps in order — do not navigate away from the portal during payment as the session will expire.

  1. Go to paci.gov.kw and select E-Services
  2. Click Card Renewal
  3. Enter your Civil ID number and proceed
  4. Verify your name in Latin and Arabic, mobile number, and address

  9. Download and save the payment receipt — required for collection or delivery request
Kuwait Civil ID Renewal Online Steps

An SMS confirmation is sent to your registered Kuwait mobile number once the renewal is submitted successfully.

After submission, what happens next

PACI processes the card within 1 to 5 working days in normal periods. You can track the status at any time through the Civil ID status check page without visiting an office.

Your Kuwait Mobile ID — the digital version of the Civil ID — can be refreshed after renewal is confirmed in the PACI system. Open the app, go to Manage, and select Check for Updates to reflect the new expiry date without waiting for the physical card.

Collection and Home Delivery Options

Once PACI confirms your card is ready, you will receive an SMS. There are three ways to receive the renewed card.

Self-service kiosk — bring your old card and payment receipt, insert the card into the reader, and follow the on-screen instructions to collect. Most standard renewals are dispensed this way.

PACI counter collection — required when the kiosk cannot issue the card due to photo or biometric issues. Bring your receipt, old card, and passport to the relevant PACI office.

Home delivery — request through the PACI portal after renewal is processed, pay 2.000 KWD, add your delivery address and mobile number, then track via SMS until the card arrives. Delivery adds approximately 2 working days to the total timeline.

Full collection centre addresses, maps, and timings are on our Civil ID collection points page.

When Online Renewal Is Not Available

Online renewal through the PACI portal does not process cases involving data changes. If your name spelling, date of birth, or nationality record needs correction, the portal will return an error and direct you to a counter.

Cards that show Suspended status also cannot be renewed online — the suspension must be cleared at a PACI office before the renewal process can proceed. Full details on suspended cards are on our Civil ID fine check page.

FAQS:

1. Can I renew my Kuwait Civil ID from outside Kuwait?

Online payment through the PACI portal may work from abroad, but the OTP is sent to your registered Kuwait mobile number — if that number is not active while overseas, the payment step will not complete. Home delivery is not available to addresses outside Kuwait. Most residents should plan to initiate and complete the renewal while in Kuwait, or arrange a trusted representative to collect the card.

2. How long does a Kuwait Civil ID renewal take?

Online submission and payment take under 10 minutes. Card readiness typically takes 1 to 5 working days after payment in normal periods. Busy periods — after public holidays, during school registration months, or in the weeks before National Day — can extend this to 7 to 10 working days. Home delivery adds approximately 2 business days after the card is ready for collection.

3. Do I still need the physical card if the Kuwait Mobile ID shows the new expiry?

Most banks and government service counters accept the Kuwait Mobile ID for identity verification. However, the physical Civil ID card is still required for travel within GCC countries, certain visa applications, and some services that scan the card’s chip directly. Keep the physical card current regardless of the Mobile ID status.

4. What happens if I miss my Civil ID renewal deadline?

Fines begin accruing from the expiry date. The fine amount increases the longer the card remains expired — it is not a fixed penalty. An expired card blocks access to banking, residency renewal, and government services until the renewal is completed and the fine is paid. The renewal process itself remains the same whether the card is expired or approaching expiry, but the outstanding fine must be settled as part of the same payment transaction.
